“庸俗”、“低俗”、“媚俗” 译成 “debased,” “debauched,” 和 “déclassé” 如何?
Alternatively:
- Coarse, crude, and crass
- Low-brow, low-down, and low-class
- Skeezy, sleazy, and cheesy
- Rude, lewd, and crude
- Tacky, tawdry, and tasteless
- Uncouth, unchaste, and unctuous
- Inelegant, indecent, and insipid
The War on Fun.”

August 13th, 2010, at 2:22 pm #真是难为 O’Kane 了……
August 13th, 2010, at 7:01 pm #yongsuism,disuism,meisuism
“déclassé” doesn’t sound 媚俗, “cheesy” sounds better.
August 14th, 2010, at 12:26 am #cheesy tacky kitschy
August 14th, 2010, at 12:36 am #I don’t think 媚俗 is any worse than 低俗, it is just a special kind of 俗, the 媚kind, which means 迎合,讨好, fawning.
August 14th, 2010, at 2:02 am #Yes; the distinction between the three has been tricky. My understanding, in English terms, is that 庸俗 equates more or less to “low-brow” as a basic state; that 低俗 equates to “debauching,” as in something that effects a lower state in the viewer; and that 媚俗 equates to “pandering to the lowest common denominator.”
This took a lot of asking and explaining, though, and the entire campaign seems to be poorly defined and basically stupid to begin with. 媚俗, after all, is what American foreign power is based on. If only Chinese media could produce 媚俗 entertainment, maybe they would have a shot at being taken seriously in the international market.
August 14th, 2010, at 2:52 am #以上我个人比较喜欢是the sibilant, rhymed “skeezy, sleazy, cheesy” ,但是sleazy感觉又差点。
August 22nd, 2010, at 6:22 pm #“低俗”、“媚俗”、“庸俗”
“cheap, cheesy, kitschy”
”反三俗“ 译成 “The War on Fun.”
